Submersible Smart Power Distribution Unit (SPDU)

he Submersible Smart Power Distribution Unit is a compact, ruggedized power management system engineered for harsh and water-exposed environments. Housed in a modified aluminium junction enclosure, the unit is purpose-built for submersion while maintaining full operational reliability and safety.
Designed with durability and versatility in mind, the enclosure features four stainless steel external handles that serve multiple functions: enabling safe lifting and handling, acting as stable support legs for flexible placement, and providing elevated protection for all external components against impact and accidental damage.
All external interfaces, including switches and indicators, are IP68-rated to ensure reliable operation in submerged or high-moisture conditions. With its compact footprint (300mm × 250mm × 170mm) and robust construction, this unit provides a dependable solution for controlled power distribution in demanding applications. The Problem

Challenges,
- Lots of penetrations into the junction box is extra sites for water egress. Sealing around connectors and switches.
- Cable management in tight enclosure
- Tight wiring space.
- Compact size vs serviceability
- Heat dissipation in a sealed box
Iterations
- better toggle switches with a standard water proof rating
- large box or less ports and the wiring is to tight in the enclosure
- better utilisation of the network connection with current sensing, with temperature probes and possible multi pin external connector for addition flexibility.
- Integration of better labels that are not stickers and would last in harsh conditions and or time.
- Adding a wiring diagram to bottom of container to help future self.
